Mahjong 101 · Foundations

Start with the tiles. Build a strong foundation.
Designed for the complete beginner, Mahjong 101 introduces the tiles, the NMJL card, basic rules, setup, and the fundamentals of American Mahjong. You’ll leave understanding how the game works and ready to begin playing with confidence.

Mahjong 102 · Familiarity

Turn what you learned into comfortable play.
Mahjong 102 builds on your foundation with a deeper understanding of the NMJL card, the Charleston, passing strategy, calling tiles, and choosing and building hands. Guided play helps you become more comfortable making decisions at the table.

Mahjong 103 · Finesse

Refine your play and develop your strategy.
Mahjong 103 is for players who know the rules and are ready to become stronger, more confident players. We focus on strategy, hand flexibility, defensive awareness, decision-making, and more fluid, timed play—helping you move from simply knowing how to play to playing with finesse.

Mahjong 101 Group Class

Gather your friends and learn American Mahjong together! This beginner-friendly group class introduces the tiles, the NMJL card, setup, rules, and the fundamentals of play in a welcoming, hands-on environment. No prior Mahjong experience is needed. We’ll guide you from your first tile to your first game while building a strong foundation for confident play. Minimum of 3 people - maximum of 12 people for group discount.

Designed for experienced American Mahjong players who are ready to share the game with others, our American Mahjong Instructor course focuses on teaching American Mahjong accurately, confidently, and with integrity. Learn how to structure lessons, clearly explain NMJL rules and foundational concepts, and guide new players with patience and compassion, correcting to help players learn, never simply to prove them wrong.

Free Community Class

Mahjong is meant to bring people together. As part of our commitment to sharing the game and building community, Petite Dragon Lady offers a free beginner American Mahjong class every other month: February, April, June, August, October, and December.

Learn the basics of the tiles, the NMJL card, and game play in a welcoming, no-pressure environment designed especially for first-time players.
